When someone you love is misdiagnosed or critically ill, it can feel like the whole world is stacked against you—especially when doctors seem dismissive or unwilling to dig deeper. I’ve lived that. More than once.
My name is Caroline, I’m a 23-year-old clinical research professional, medical advocate, and the founder of Blonde Against the Odds—a digital blog and resource hub created to help families like mine challenge the status quo, speak up in the exam room, and fight for answers when something doesn’t sit right.
This passion was born from one of the biggest fights of my life: saving my grandma from a misdiagnosis of late-stage Alzheimer’s Disease. I knew the doctors had it so very wrong, and I wouldn't stop until I proved that to them. I didn’t have a medical degree, but I had something just as powerful: relentless research skills, an analytical mindset from my professional background in clinical trials, and an unshakable gut feeling. I challenged specialists, including neurosurgeons, pushed for deeper evaluations, and finally convinced them to perform the brain surgery that I believe, saved her life.
I also watched my mom go through not one, but two battles with ovarian cancer.
The first time, I was just 10 years old—curled up in a chair beside her hospital bed, clutching her hand as machines beeped quietly around me. I didn’t understand everything that was happening, but I knew I didn’t want to leave her side.
The second time, I was 15. Old enough to understand what cancer meant, and just young enough to still feel helpless. That round was different. Scarier. The treatment was experimental, and no one could promise what would happen. But my mom had an incredible oncologist—someone we trusted with our whole hearts—and she faced the unknown with this quiet, steady strength that still lives in me to this day.
Throughout both diagnoses, my mom didn’t wait around. She didn’t stall. She acted fast, asked hard questions, and made the decisions that saved her life. Watching her move through that storm—twice—is one of the deepest reasons why I care so much about helping others through theirs.
My mom was the first person who taught me how to advocate—with love, with courage, and with urgency. And now, I carry that with me into everything I do, every resource I create, and every person I hope to help.
Now, I’m channeling everything I’ve learned into Blonde Against the Odds—a place where personal stories meet clinical insight, and fierce advocacy meets soft strength.
This platform is here for the daughters, sisters, friends, and caregivers who want to fight smarter, not harder.
You’ll find:
Real, raw stories from my own journey
Downloadable resources to help you advocate
A form to request a Research-Backed Guide from me, to help you navigate a diagnosis or mystery condition
A Community Chat where everyone can get together and ask questions, share stories, and help answer each other's questions
Whether you’re battling a stickler doctor, chasing a second opinion, or navigating a terrifying diagnosis—I want you to know that you’re not alone. And you’re not crazy for asking questions. In fact, you should be asking more.
This blog is for those who lead with their hearts and their heads. The ones who know what it feels like to be dismissed, but never let that stop them. It’s for the families who believe they deserve better answers—and are brave enough to go get them.
Welcome to Blonde Against the Odds. Let's rewrite what advocacy looks like.
